In the Studio...

In the studio, I work in various formats, analog and digital. Usually prefering digital because it is so much faster than analog tape. I believe the warmth that is most desirable in analog recording can be captured with nice front end gear, i.e. pre amps and compressors, tube mics, etc. that are common to the professional studios in town. That, along with excellent digital to analog conversion, is a great way to record.

I
f you like that vintage analog experience, then I'll dust off the Otari 24 track and kick into "old school" mode. I've got thousands of hours of analog recording behind me, so I'm happy to give you the sound you want. We can also mix to analog on an Otari 2 track, but the project may sound even better if we record at a higher resolution (96kHz.) These are topics we can discuss at our pre production meeting.

During the session I host an environment that allows clients and players the ease and freedom to work at top form. My goal is to create a cozy mood where everyone feels at home and relaxed.

I will work within the budget of most projects and I offer full CD production services, including mastering, graphics, CD pressing and duping, web design, enhanced CD's, 5.1 surround sound DVD authoring and video services.

  People I've worked with...
I've been very fortunate and honored to have worked with and/or produced many albums and projects with artists and groups whom I respect and admire as true talent. Since emerging into the Portland music scene in 1998, these players include such names as Grammy nominee Chrissy Faith, bass and drums Lonnie Turner and Gary Maliber of the Steve Miller Band, blues legend Curtis Salgato, jazz piano great Tom Grant, backup singer to Boss Skaggs and Bette Midler, Margaret Dorn, flat picker and sideman David Rea of the Gordon Lightfoot group, Portland favorites Tracy Klas, Stolen Sweets, Tall Jazz, JC Tubbs, Western Aerial, Geoff Byrd, SHED, Inc. to name a few.

Live Recording...

In 2001 I recorded and produced a series of live recordings called Saturday's @ Central, including the very talented singer Stephanie Schneiderman, cello master Skip vonKuske, guitar great Dan Balmer, bass legend Phil Baker, and the international touring group The Karelian Folk Ensemble. Interestingly, those recordings in the Library were the beginning of what has turned into the multi channel, surround sound recordings that I capture for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and the Portland Youth Philharmonic in venues including the Arlene Schnitzer Hall and the Newmark Theatre.
